Etape du Tour 2020 - Paiani Sport Organisation

l’Etape du Tour de France 2020 recon

Nice - Nice
177km - 3570m D+

Just a few days after the official Tour de France route anouncement, we organized a recon of the Etape du Tour 2020 between Nice and Nice to be able to provide you with feedback about the stage.

The 30th Etape du Tour will take part on Sunday 5th of July. The route goes through Nice countryside, great alpine road with col de la Colmiane, col de Turini, and the beautiful col d'Eze. Let us share our experience with you.

Séjour Etape du Tour

Start on la promenade des Anglais in Nice.

Nice, will be host city of Tour de France 2020 and l’Etape du Tour 2020.
Sea shore, Promenade des Anglais, palm trees, the old town turn Nice into a magic place.
On my Bianchi Specialissima, Let's go for full stage recon through Col de la Colmiane, Col de Turini, and Col d'Eze. The start line will be on la promenade des Anglais. You have 10km to enjoy Nice, then we catch a main road to pk 55.

Tinée valley with some light step

After long straight road on Var river valley, you will enjoy beautiful gorges de la Tinée. Some light climbs will show you if you are in a good shape.
After la Bolinette, you will be in the heart of l'Etape du Tour! You turn right and start to climb le col de la Colmiane (1500m) with 16,3km at 6,3%. It's a quite difficult climb, the steepest part is at the begininng.

Col de la Colmiane.

The start is not easy but you will find a flat section in village of La Bolline Valdeblore. The last part is in forest, fresher so more pleasant in summer. At the top, the ski resort of la Colmiane isn't really beautiful (Megève is more beautiful! (I am might not be objective since I am native from Megève...). So, no coffee stop and we carry on downhill to St Martin de Vésubie!
Descent is quite technical with some dangerous turns. Take care of your line if you want to see Col de Turini! After St Martin de Vésubie village, you have to pedal to join the foot of the mythical Col de Turini.

Shut up legs ! Col de Turini is 14,9km for 7,4% grade with many spin turns! It's a breathtaking ascent but I have to stay focus on my breath all climb long.

Grade is regular all climb long.

Summit of Col de Turini - 1607m

On top, there are some restaurants but no downhill ...! We had time to rest ourselves and eat some bars before starting the mythical part of Monte Carlo rally : descent of Turini to Lucéram! To be safe, we tighted our brakes and helmet before warming up our tires! Spin turns! There are many spin turns, so take care of your lines if you don't want to take a shortcut.

Descent of Turini and its spin turns.

End of the downhill will bring us to Nice and foot of col d'Eze (7,8km at 6,1% average). Foot of col d'Eze is difficult : 2km with 10% grade ! After one kilometer, you can enjoy the breathtaking view on Nice city.

View on Nice and Mediterranean sea from col d'Eze

The last part of Col d'Eze is much easier with a last kilometer flat. You will enjoy the view on the sea and the way back on medium cornice to the finish line.

#I LOVE NICE from la baie des Anges in Nice

The finish line is on the harbour in Nice. Our Etape du Tour de France 2020 recon is completed.
This Etape du Tour is much easier than the last one but more tricky. A good recon will help you to manage better your effort during long climbs and to be in confidence for technical descents!
